A Phoenix pastor received a suspended sentence of ten days in jail and three years probation—for violating a noise ordinance.
His crime? Ringing church bells as a way of praising God.
By the way, the ordinance doesn’t include exemption for religious worship—but it does exempt ice cream trucks—which actually have a higher decibel level.
I’m finding it ironic that the sound of church bells wouldn’t at LEAST be as acceptable as the sound of an ice cream truck!
The Pastor was represented by Alliance Defending Freedom which defended his constitutionally-protected rights, and the conviction was overturned.
Once again, I’m shaking my head as to where we’ve come in the battle for religious freedom.
An ice cream truck vs church bells?
