When I’m asked about “spiritual gifts”—I always answer with a caution!
I’m pleased Christians seem to have a renewed interest in the gifts of the Spirit.
It’s a healthy trend.
God has given us special gifts so we can serve him better and serve our fellow Christians.
But it’s possible to slip into what I call, “gift obsession.”
What do I mean by that?
It’s when we as followers of Christ, forget that spiritual gifts are a means to an end, not ends in themselves.
God gives gifts for service or ministry.
Our fascination should not be with our gifts, but rather with the God who gives them—and in whose service those gifts will be used.
What I’m suggesting is a fundamental ministry of cultivation of believers to uncover these gifts and train believers to their use!
