What will it take today to defend the faith so that future generations will have the truth?
Justin Martyr was an “apologist”—a defender of the faith in the early church. A scholar but in no way a dispassionate intellectual! He wrote passionately so that others would embrace Christ as the truth.
Author John Foxe recorded Justin’s death briefly:
“Justin and six of his companions were apprehended. Being commanded to deny their faith and sacrifice to the pagan idols, they refused to do either; they were, therefore, condemned to be scourged and beheaded.”
It’s impossible to overemphasize the importance of Justin Martyr’s contribution to the defense of Christianity—at his time in history a new, little-known religion. He and others like him literally “swam” against the stream of popular culture!
Make no mistake, we are living in days when we will be called upon to do the same!
